Don't forget to take advantage of our Buy 8, Get 8.  Purchase and take 8 hours of CE in 2010 and get 8 hours free if completed in 2010.  This is a special Right Tools, Right Now program for DAAR Members only. Click on Calendar or Register for Classes to the left.

At the September Virginia Real Estate Board meeting the board decided that criminal background checks were only good for 45 days.  Anyone desiring to obtain a Virginia real estate license should wait until after they have taken and passed the state exam and are ready to apply for a license before requesting a background check. This will ensure that the background check will be current and not cause an undue delay in having a license issued.

Background checks can be ordered and fingerprinting done by PSI testing services on a walk-in basis only.  For more information from PSI Click Here.

In response to the number of sales of distressed properties in our region, the Virginia Association of REALTORSĀ® is sponsoring a free continuing education (CE) short sales seminar for brokers at the DAAR offices in Leesburg on October 9th, 9:00 am -12:00 pm.  The event is for managing and principal brokers, education directors, and corporate counsel only. Featured speaker is Lem Marshall, VAR's Special Counsel, who will discuss "Foreclosures and Short Sales: Ethical and Practical Considerations", approved for three hours of broker management continuing education by the Virginia Real Estate Board.  Visit the VAR event registration site to register.

Becoming a real estate broker requires a great deal of time, study and effort, but the rewards can be worth it.  If you enjoy managing people, have the ability to train and motive others and desire to continue your education from contracts to technology, broker management may be right for you.

To obtain a real estate broker license in Virginia you must at a minimum, earn a high school diploma or its equivalent, take 180 credit-hours of state-approved real estate education from a state-approved real estate school and pass the Virginia state broker licensing exam.

As a reminder, all DAAR members are required as condition of membership to complete a New Member Orientation class within the first two offerings of first joining our Association.
We are offering the New Member class on Monday August 3rd from 9:00am - 4:00pm with a swearing in ceremony at 4:00pm for new members.  If you have never taken this class I encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity.

Mandatory CE classes will be offered on Wednesday August 12th and Elective CE classes on Thursday August 13th.    We have two CE elective courses offered on the 13th: Exterior Structures taught by Keith Reeve of Home Inspection Professionals and Renovation Financing, a new elective offering, taught by Adam Davis of Wells Fargo Home Mortgage. Two great classes with two great instructors. Be sure to sign up soon!
