    Board of Equalization Announces New Online Filing Process

    The Loudoun County Board of Equalization (BOE)  has released a new online procedure for appealing disputed real estate property assessments for 2009. The new filing process streamlines the appeal procedure which allows a property owner to file an appeal online with the BOE that is automatically transmitted to the board, receive an automatic acknowledgement of its receipt, be notified of a hearing date and time, and, following a discretionary appearance by the property owner, receive the board's determination - all via the Internet.
    Besides simplifying the appeal process for the taxpayers, this new approach will substantially reduce administrative overhead and the number of pages that have to be copied.  That total was estimated to exceed 80,000 pages in 2008.
    More details about this new online filing procedure can be found at BOE. Mail-in applications may be obtained from the Department of Management & Financial Services, located on the 4th Floor of the Loudoun County Government Center, 1 Harrison Street, S.E., in Leesburg.
