County to take a Closer Look at Performance Bonds for Alternative Septic Systems
May 7, 2009   comment nowDuring the Board of Supervisors (BOS) regular business meeting on Tuesday, May 5th, Supervisors voted to further study a proposal by Supervisor Burton (Blue Ridge) to require a performance and maintenance bond to ensure proper installation of non-conventional septic systems and for the repair and replacement of the system for a period after installation.
The proposal also calls for a 200% reserve drainfield for alternative systems in case of system failure. The purpose of the bond is to ensure conformance with the applicable state or local construction and maintenance standards and requirements. Supervisors questioned the financial impact on property owners and necessity for the added regulation. For more information, see the proposal,
action taken and related article in Leeburg Today.
