Supervisors Continue Debate on Limestone Overlay District

The Loudoun County Board of Supervisors (LCBOS) is considering adoption of a Limestone Overlay District (LOD) intended to limit development on 14,000 areas north and south of Leesburg and impose overly restrictive regulations and financial burdens on 12,000 existing property owners.  In addition to slowing growth in the area, the proposed regulations would prohibit "land disturbing activities" and require property owners to conduct expensive geological studies before constructing barns/sheds, building additions, swimming pools or large gardens.

DAAR raised serveral concerns before the LCBOS public hearing on the issue on Tuesday, September 8th including a "Warnings to Property Owners" disclosure provision within the proposal that negatively and unnecessarily affects the market value of properties within the LOD.  In response to these and other comments, the LCBOS voted to send the proposal back to the Transportation and Land Use Committee on September 28th for further study.  For more information on that public hearing, read the Leesburg Today article.

On Monday, October 26th, the TLUC met and discussed several issues raised at the public hearing and at the September 28th TLUC meeting.  The proposal may be considered by the full LCBOS as early as their business meeting on Tuesday, December 1st.  For more information, visit the new DAAR call-to-action website on this issue - www.limestoneboondoggle.com

I oppose the LOD. This will decrease the value of my home.

Are there any other support groups that we can call upon for support?

I am wondering will this also stop buildings and more highways built. I think this needs to be studied further.
