Last month, the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors (LCBOS) voted to extend a program that authorizes a volunteer sign collection group to remove illegally placed signs within the Commonwealth of Virginia's right-of-ways located in the County. Although the volunteer group has been advised to only collect signs within 5 feet of the pavements edge and or 5 feet from the shoulder, we have received reports from members that signs have been stolen from private property and vehicles.
During a training session on Tuesday, August 18th for citizens who plan to participate in Loudoun County's sign collection program, County staff reminded volunteers that they are not permitted to pick up temporary signs inside Loudoun's incorporated towns. Last week, the Leesburg Town Council signed off on a letter to the Board of Supervisors asking the county government to remind its volunteers that signs placed along roadways within town limits are hands-off to volunteers of the county's sign removal program.
