As part of the Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP), Loudoun County is offering a new Rental Rehabilitation Program (RRP), which provides for the rehabilitation of previously foreclosed homes in designated NSP neighborhoods.  The purpose of the RRP is to rehabilitate substandard rental housing units and create affordable housing.
Loudoun County's new Public Employee Homeownership Grant Program offers a grant of a secured loan to income-eligible employees of the Loudoun County Government and Loudoun County Public Schools. The program assists low-to moderate-income public employees in purchasing a home in Loudoun County.
Earlier in the year, the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors (BOS) voted to move forward with the implementation of portions of the Chesapeake Bay Preservation Act and directed county staff to develop a work program for development and enactment of the associated regulations.  The proposed regulations aim to reduce pollution runoff into the Chesapeake Bay by implementing certain restrictions on agriculture and other land uses.  The BOS further directed that the Planning Commission work with stakeholders groups, including DAAR, as part of the process.

The Virginia Housing Development Authority (VHDA) announced the availability of  below market rate loans under the SPARC program (Sponsoring Partnerships and Revitalizing Communities) for first-time homebuyers who meet VHDA eligibility requirements. The funds, available through June 30, 2010 or until expended, are administered by the Loudoun County Department of Family Services. Sales price and income limits apply.

DAAR is working with the Loudoun Times Mirror in producing a weekly column in the Homes section and is pleased to offer members an opportunity to write  for the column to showcase their expertise.  Writers will be asked to produce a 350 word piece periodically on topics related to homeownership such as preparing for open houses, tips for pricing your home, mortgage lending, staging, renovation financing, budget basics, sprucing up a home's exterior, moving tips, home inspections, etc.

DAARGRTK09.jpgIn response to growing consumer demand for green homes and building practices in Loudoun County and the Northern Virginia area, we are pleased to present the DAAR Green Real Estate Tool Kit comprised of resources for REALTORS® and consumers who wish to Go Green! REALTORS® will find resources on educational opportunities to work with this growing market.
The Loudoun County Economic Development Commission (EDC) is recruiting new members for terms beginning January 2010. The EDC seeks local business leaders who can contribute their time, energy, and ideas to promote business growth, strengthen the local economy, and preserve Loudoun's high quality of life.  Leaders from all sectors of the local business community, including the real estate industry, are encouraged to apply.

811.jpgYou may have heard about Virginia's Underground Utility Damage Prevention Act: It requires that Realtors® (and others) call the Virginia Utility Protection Service -- aka Miss Utility -- before putting up any sign that involves sticking something in the dirt, other than "coat hanger" signs.   Even putting up a typical spike sign is considered "excavating," and Realtors® or their sign companies who don't first get the go-ahead from Miss Utility face up to a $2,500 fine. In fact, the SCC's Division of Underground Utility and Railroad Safety originally prohibited even those coat-hanger signs; VAR fought for and won at least that concession.

Capitol-Thumb.pngThe Virginia Association of REALTORS®, in concert with local REALTOR® associations, including the Dulles Area Association of REALTORS®, worked for passage and defeat of many key bills impacting the real estate profession during the 2009 regular session of the General Assembly.  From nullifying the current ban on alternative septic systems to promoting commercial broker license portability and tax fairness, the REALTOR® organization worked during the 45-day legislative session to advance these measures that won final approval this week:
