The Virginia Association of REALTORS® was successful at reversing rules requiring utility marking for metal frame signs in the Commonwealth. Officials at the State Corporation Commission, after several meetings with VAR staff, have agreed that Realtors® who install metal frame signs (such as the one pictured left) by hand on a property do not need to call Miss Utility first.

President Obama signed a bill that includes an extension and expansion of the current home buyer tax credit. The new law extends the $8,000 tax credit for first-time home buyers through April 30, 2010. Current homeowners are now eligible for a $6,500 tax credit through April 30, 2010 provided they have lived in the home they are selling, or have sold, as principal residence for five consecutive years in the past eight years.

During the 2009 DAAR Economic Summit and Annual Meeting last month top experts discussed the future of the housing market and economy before a packed-audience at the Loudoun County School Administration Building in Ashburn. John McClain, Senior Fellow, George Mason University's Center for Regional Analysis, discussed how the federal government-backed local economy is a strong backdrop for housing market recovery in our area.
