One of the many benefits of membership is the opportunity to join a DAAR committee of interest.  Serving as a committee member will not only help guide the services and resources the Association provides to members but can benefit your business and work as a real estate professional.  The networking opportunities are invaluable, the insight you gain into this industry is amazing.  As a bonus, the peers serving on the committee with you become friends, mentors and colleagues to call on for help, ideas or information.
We are pleased to announce that the following DAAR members and staff have been appointed to several Virginia Association of REALTOR® advocacy and specialty group appointments for 2009 including...

Several DAAR members received appointments to NAR committees. DAAR Chairman-Elect Brad Boland of Jobin Realty in Reston received a first year appointment to Conventional Finance and Lending.  DAAR Chairman Candice Bower of Carter Braxton Real Estate in Leesburg received a second year appointment as the State Representative to Risk Management.  VAR Policy Board Member Rick Cockrill of Keller Williams in Leesburg received a second year appointment to Risk Management. Virginia got fewer than normal committee appointments this year and we are pleased and excited that three appointments were made to DAAR Members.  Congratulations!

During the VAR Convention in Baltimore, MD, the Delegate Body elected 8 candidates for the VAR Policy Board, the governing body of Virginia Association of REALTORS®.  Among the candidates elected is Candice Bower, of Carter Braxton Real Estate in Leesburg and current Chairman of the Board of DAAR.  DAAR's future representation on VAR's Policy Board will consist of Candice and Gwen Pangle of Long & Foster in Sterling who will be continuing in an unexpired term of office.  Our other representative, Rick Cockrill will be retiring after 6 years of service.  We offer our thanks to Rick for his service, and congratulations to Candice on her election.

Congratulations to Jay Thomas of Keller Williams/Leesburg on his admission into the 2009 Class of Leadership Loudoun.  This is a 8 month program of leadership development for Loudoun County.  Students experience County Legislative Bodies, Social Services and a host of county entities as well as the attributes of a true leaders. It is a great program.  Best Wishes Jay.

DAAR's Association Leadership Development Program  is off and running.  Over the last year DAAR in partnership with the Fredericksburg Area and Prince William Associations of REALTORS® has developed a Leadership Development Program to assist us with developing strong leaders for the future of the Associations.  Our first class hit the ground running last Thursday, Sept 11, 2008 with personality analysis and and a presentation on how to use those personality attributes toward successful leadership

Congratulations to the DAAR Class of '08/09 - Jackie Lawlor-Campiti (Jack Lawlor Realty Co.), Frank Schofield Summit Realtors), Raj Patel (IKON of Ashburn), Danilo Bogdanovic (Market Advantage Real Estate) and Michele Stash (Re-Max Premier).

Danilo.jpgDAAR member Danilo Bogdanovic of Market Advantage Real Estate in Reston has been selected to participate in the Virginia Association of REALTORS® Leadership Academy Class of 2009.  Through the program, VAR identifies emerging REALTOR® leaders in the state, encourages them with motivational activities, and assists in sharpening their leadership skills in the hope they will exert a strong positive influence on the future of the Association and real estate profession.

Bogdanovic, who serves on DAAR's Communications and Technology Committee, is one of twenty-two REALTOR® leaders selected from around the Commonwealth.  The participants will work together in a full-year training course that combines individual study, group sessions, and actual project experience in using leadership skills. Quarterly training sessions include identification of leadership skills, team-building exercises, and procedures for goal setting, personal profile analysis, network building, and improving communications skills. For more information, visit the VAR Leadership Academy site.

The Association Leadership Development program, an alliance between the Prince William Association, the Fredericksburg Area Association and The Dulles Area Association has been finalized and we are now accepting applications for the 2008/09 program year.  Leadership is part genetic and part learned, we're here to help you along with the learning part.  Review the information and see if this is a program which might benefit not only your leadership skills for DAAR, but your leadership skills in your career.  Applications are due no later than August 15th.  So act now!
